APRIL 26, 2010
Holy crap, have I seriously not updated this page since March 31?
Anyhow, in the past few weeks, I have added a few columns to pages here and there, making mention of so on my Twitter Feed. There are additions to the LEEN, Movies, Old Age, and Videos Pages.
We are in the middle of the week leading up to the new Michael Bay-produced, Jackie-Earl-Haley-starring “Nightmare on Elm Street,” which acts as a reboot of Wes Craven’s original 1984 film. I am excited for this flick, and since Robert “The Original Freddy Krueger” Englund gave his blessing, I don’t think I’ll be disappointed with someone new donning the famous four razor fingers.
In preparation, I have been reviewing one “Nightmare” flick per day. As of this date, I am up to the fourth flick. All of them have been posted to the “Movies” page and, with the exception of the first movie, all are also found on the LEEN page.
MARCH 31, 2010
As we bid March a fond farewell and welcome in the next 25% of 2010, we (“we” meaning “I”) here at fumor.net are prepared to make some changes.
First and foremost, I assure each and every one of my readers that fumor.net and all of its pages will be 100% accessible on April 1, 2010. An avid Internet user, I dread the advent of each April Fool’s Day, as many webmasters enjoy taking it upon themselves to fuck with their visitors. A prime example is my news aggregator site of choice, Fark.com, which is notorious for pulling April 1 pranks that only seem to annoy their readers. Check statistics for reddit.com, digg.com, and other such sites in the days following April 1 and you will most likely see a surge of activity, as former Farkers and Totalfarkers made their way over to their prank-free pages. Presumably.
Aside from flipping my fumor.net banner upside down, I only play April Fool’s pranks on friends and family members, usually in the form of a text message or Facebook status update. You readers are safe.
Speaking of fooling people, let me bring up the Catholicism religion. You may have noticed that I added a category entitled “Catholicism,” which will detail my misadventures with the most depressing, self-deprecating faith on the planet (and that’s saying something, given that select other faiths out there require everything from suicide bombing to circumcision to MORE than one wife). I happened to do this during the holiest of weeks for the Catholics; Palm Sunday just passed us by, and on deck are Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday itself.
I have kept my Videos and Cups pages well updated and an article or two has made its way to a few of the other categories. I look forward to the month’s end, as April 30, 2010 marks the release of the new “Nightmare on Elm Street” movie, a remake of the original starring Jackie Earl “Rorschach from ‘Watchmen’” Haley as the new Freddy Krueger. Many “Nightmare” fans in my life are avoiding the new movie, but I am curious to see what producer Michael Bay has in store for us, as Robert “Freddy” Englund gave his blessing to Mr. Haley. Plus, as my horror movie franchise of choice growing up, I am always eager to see the latest adventures of Freddy Krueger and his prey, regardless of who sat in the makeup chair immediately before “Action!” was yelled. This new flick is the first Freddy movie since “Freddy Vs. Jason” was released in 2003 and the first Jason-Voorhees-free “Nightmare” flick since “Wes Craven’s New Nightmare” was released in 1994.
Enjoy and Happy April Fool’s Day, everyone!
MARCH 16, 2010
Hello, readers. I hope this St. Patrick’s Eve finds you all well.
Speaking of the annual March 17 holiday, I have not only adjusted the header appropriately, but have also added two columns to the “Holidays” page to commemorate the occasion. One was written while I was in college (and slightly modified for 2010); the other was written after college during what were apparently my angry years. Also, check out the column “March 14: Something for Everybody” on the same page for a written description of the two events that make each March 14 their home: Steak and a BJ Day and Pi Day.
Speaking of Pi Day, it appears that the 2010 edition of it was the last one actor Peter Graves would ever celebrate. His demise at the ripe old age of 83 bumped me to the lead in the 2010 Dead Pool; I now have 2 corpses, while Rengaw, Squall, and Hightower each have one apiece.
Check out the Random and Videos pages; one new column greets you on each. I added one to the Philly page as well and am currently working on a few more that will be posted soon to the Philly and New York City pages.
I have temporarily suspended updates of the “Bobs” page, thanks largely to a book I saw recently in a used bookstore that identically praised anyone and everyone named “Bob.” I may delete the page entirely, as I do not wish to rehash someone else’s ideas…but at the same time, the fumor.net “Bobs” page features a number of Bobs that the older book left out. So, we will see.
MARCH 9, 2010
Greetings, readers.
As I write these words, I am still relishing the three days I spent with my friend SingSong in New York City, the last of which was today. I had a great time, one that was desperately needed after the winter-ful February we East Coasters suffered through in many ways. Since I hail from Philadelphia, which is basically a small town masquerading as an actual metropolis, it finds itself unable to function whenever snow occurs. The mass transit systems were interrupted, with some lines canceled altogether. Streets were plowed by car tires as opposed to actual snowplows.
Disgusting.
I’m not sure how New York handled the weather, but I’ll bet my paycheck that it was better than Philadelphia’s response.
Anyway, I’ve been updating a few of the pages; added a cup to the Cups Blog, added a few videos to the Videos page, and Squall and Hightower’s latest Dead Pool victories to the Dead Pool. At least MY pick was someone well known, NOT a former wrestling giant’s father or, up until her demise this past week, the 2nd oldest person in the world.
I am working on a few essays at the moment that I look forward to sharing with you. I’ll keep you posted.
