Fumor Becomes Mundane

On a frosty night in New York City’s Times Square, the frozen fish stick that had apparently replaced my finger hovered over the keypad of my Motorola Q. All around me, people from all over the world (except New York City itself, of course, whose residents couldn’t be bothered) filled every molecule of available space. Several streets from where my feet were frozen to the asphalt, a video screen approximately the size of Rhode Island illuminated the night sky. Perched atop One Times Square, its display counted down the remaining minutes…and finally seconds…of the year 2008.

“Two…one…Happy New Year!” the crowd shouted in drunken unison.

Click! went my frozen finger on the “submit” button on my phone, its web browser pointed at WordPress.

Pff (or something similar) went the screen on my phone, exchanging the display for a blank, black screen. My one-year-long relationship with the phone, which included consistent usage, had weakened the battery to such a point that merely unhooking it from the charger dropped its power by like 75%.

Fucking piece of shit phone went my vocal chords, transmitting the NSFW message to my chapped lips.

This is the story of fumor.net’s birth.

From that point onward, my first solo website that had its very own URL and everything enjoyed a good year or so of consistent updates. Readership swelled a bit as time went on but not to the numbers enjoyed by Google, Facebook, (insert random porn site here), etc. Since the Internet changes on basically a second-by-second basis, my layout got ancient rather quick. It was time for a change.

In the summer of 2011, I officially retired fumor.net and began work on its successor. I hit a few creative snafus, but nothing that couldn’t be overcome with cyber-kicks to the ass by some really excellent friends of mine. Thus, I present to all of my dear readers for the first time ever:

On Friday of this week (October 14), my Twitter handle, @fumordotnet, will officially change over. Needless to say, I will send out more tweets about this changeover than a porn spambot.

Thank you to everyone who read fumor.net in its short lifespan and I hope you will continue to read whatever the hell I have to say over at MundaneMike.com
